Interesting article week 2

I chose this article as the piece I like and found interesting because I believe this topic is very popular especially in college news. Although the article discusses children that are prescribed to Adderall and Ritalin, it is also used by many college students. I found this article very interesting and informative.

Word of the Week 2

Diminution: a reduction in the size, extent, or importance of something.

Reading about the smartphone, Blackberry in a NY Times article, I learned a new word that is a reduction in size.

Word of the Week 1

An article I found while looking around the web at recent news, I found this editorial. The title being "Haley Barbour's actions taint clemency process". It attracted me because I have never heard the word clemency. After finding that it is just another word for "mercy", I decided it to be my word of the week. Now, I learned what another word for "mercy" is.

Elementary Rules of Usage

Chapter 1 in "The Elements of Style" reminded me of some of the most important punctuation rules in the english language. I remember learning these in elementary school, hence the title of the chapter. I liked being reminded of these different rules. It seems this book will help me in my writing throughout the semester. Each rule discussed in the chapter may not seem important to some writers but these small rules must be used in the proper way. It was helpful how each given rule showed different examples on how each rule would be used in a sentence. I can tell this book will be very helpful in my writing.
