Word of the Week 8
Synecdoche: a figure of speech in which a part is substituted for a whole or a whole for a part.
This caused me some confusion before I understood what it meant. An example would be "there were 50 head of cattle" instead of "there were 50 cows." Or the army for a soldier.

Well-written Piece week 8
"The show spends a lot more time on the runway and a lot less in the sewing room than“Project Runway” does, and the fashion walks are presented with booming music before a whooping audience, taking on the tenor of a theatrical spectacle. Viewers who like backstage traumas involving fabric that won’t behave may be disappointed, but those who come for the clothes will be sated."
This excerpt is from a New York Times article titled "Who Would Wear This Stuff? 'Fashion Star,' Designer Competition Series on NBC. Personally, I have never watched this show before but this part of the article makes me want to tune in. Comparing this new show to "Project Runway" is a good way to attract readers into watching this instead.

Error in Writing week 7
While reading an article on "Yahoo's omg!" section titled "GLAAD Blasts Kirk Cameron for calling Homosexuality "unnatural" and destructive". In the beginning of the article, the coloumnist quoted Cameron saying "It's unnatural," Cameron said on the show Friday. "I think that it's - it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."
There is an extra "it's" placed in the quote and it shouldn't be there.

Word of the Week 7
careering: speeding, rushing.
Some people may see this word and think of the word career but it actually has nothing to do with a career. It has to do with cars that may be speeding or someone who is rushing. I thought it was very interesting.

Good piece of writing week 7
"With people who know how to revenge themselves and to stand up for themselves in general, how is it done? Why, when they are possessed, let us suppose, by the feeling of revenge, then for the time there is nothing else but that feeling left in their whole being. Such a gentleman simply dashes straight for his object like an infuriated bull with its horns down, and nothing but a wall will stop him" (Dostoevsky, 56).
I chose this excerpt from "Notes from the Underground" because it is such a powerful way of explaining the idea of revenge.
